Ever since I dropped my cable provider, I have been watching a lot more videos online for entertainment and learning. Some of sites that are more popular with me include
video.msn.com (news, lifestyle, movie previews)
msnbc.com (news)
youtube.com (TV shows that have been pre-recorded and video tutorials)
abc.com (prime time shows)
Adobe Media Player (MTV, Comedy Central, CBS, food network, & PBS)
What I like about video.msn.com is that it provides up-to-date video news, movie previews, and lifestyle (fashion, cooking, Today Show clips). Some of the features include browsing through video clips while watching a video, mouse over descriptions, and adding/removing videos from your playlist (queued for later viewing). However, the site has been experiencing some issues the last few days. When attempting to access the site, a sign in error is displayed. When the site is available, it works great and is one of my favorite sites to visit.
When following political news, I prefer going to msnbc.com, it looks like they using Flash player 9 media technology. The news are organized very well and the user also gets to keep a video playlist. The streaming speed is very good, but sometimes users might have to wait a while before the video loads due to site advertisements. As for youtube.com, I just recently noticed that they are also using the playlist feature. Furthermore, when I am looking for video content, I like the "Did you mean..." spell aid when I misspell things. Furthermore, abc.com, in my opinion offers the highest quality video out of all of the sites. The site offers small video clips and full length video of their popular shows on the ABC network.
As for Abode Media Player (AMP), I just stared using this desktop application that works across the Internet. The variety of content is vast and I was very excited to set it up and use it. So far, I have viewed Photoshop tutorials, WIRED gadget videos, and Style.com fashion videos. However, although comedy central videos were advertised, I have yet to find any videos related to that cable network. Additionally, I didn't notice any ads while using the application, but
that didn't mean that I was able to view content faster. On the contrary, most of my time was spent on looking at a black screen that read "Buffering". Some of the videos that are selected for viewing are fully downloaded and some are streamed, either way, speed is not a friend to AMP.
