Working as a poll worker for my precinct, was very exciting but it was hard work. In the morning there was good voter turnout. By 11am we already had 75 people place their paper ballot vote. I had the pleasure of working with a local high school student and two veteran poll workers. At lunch time the paced started to pick up; however, I expected a lot more voters. Nevertheless, I spoke too soon and around 3pm we had more people in line than we can process. The line was out the door in our small voting location. The voter traffic did not slow down until we closed the polls at 8pm. There was no time for even a minute break, because there were so many people waiting to vote. It didn't surprise me that we also had many problems with the paper ballots, my fellow veteran poll workers explained that electronic voting is much faster than paper ballot voting. I just registered to be an Election Officer for the upcoming February 5th presidential primary election for the country of Riverside, California (http://www.election.co.riverside.ca.us/). I know that a lot of people will turn out at the polls, considering all the attention that the candidates from both major parties have gotten. Furthermore, I am energized and ready to work as a poll worker and interact with people on such an important and perhaps historic day for voting, "Super Tuesday" 2008. In addition, California also has a few local state measures on the ballots. As an early voter, I noticed the absence of electronic voting and instead existence of paper ballots. It will be interesting to see if this will cause issues for this election.
